Personal Safety can cover lots of different topics, such as fire safety, protecting your valuables, walking home at night and emergency first aid.
Today, we have information from Manchester Fire Service in the iZone about how to reduce the risk of fire in your student home, and what to do if a fire alarm does go off. Students living in university halls of residence will be familiar with the fire alarm going off at 2am, and sometimes it may seem preferable to stay in bed rather than to go outside because your flatmate has burnt their toast. However, one day it could be a real fire alarm and you would have no way of knowing, so it’s always best to be on the safe side.
Greater Manchester Police will be in the iZone from 12-2pm. They will be registering students’ belongings, so if you were burgled, they may be some chance they could trace your laptop, phone or iPad. They will also be able to offer tips on how to prevent burglary in the first place, like always locking and closing doors and windows, not leaving valuables on display.
