Earlier this month we transformed the Atrium into a funky departure lounge, bedecked with flags of the world and airport security paraphernalia, to bring you a Global Fair where we had stands from the International Programmes Office (IPO), Careers, Volunteering and Alumni. Over 300 of you turned up to take part-wow! We hope you all managed to get into the global-mind set, as with many top-notch graduate employers now asking for candidates with global and cultural awareness, we thought we would put on an event to help you to give your CV a global boost by outlining the fantastic opportunities available to you whilst at uni.
We had some fun and games over at the IPO stand with students (and staff) taking part in the “Country Countdown” where participants had to try and locate a randomly generated country on our globe in 30 seconds, showing me that I definitely needed to brush up on my geography skills! Studying abroad as part of your degree is a fantastic way to explore and experience different cultures, with opportunities to study at world class universities. IPO also provide students with the opportunity to work abroad as well, helping to give you a global edge over potential rivals in the job market. Check out their website to find out more.
The Careers service & the Alumni Association offer a fab programme called Global Graduates where you can spend a week during the summer working in exotic locations including Dubai and New York! Visit their website for more info.
Another way to broaden your global horizons right here in Manchester is to take the prestigious Manchester Global Award based within University College, which will be listed on your Higher Education Achievement Report (HEAR). Check out their website for more details.
Following on from our Global Fair, we also hosted an Experience Asia event where there was the opportunity to talk to employers about study and work opportunities in a variety of locations across Asia with over 500 attending throughout the day-thanks for all who turned up! We hope you found the events useful.
